Composer's Treat

One week residency in Buitenwerkplaats

In 2016 I initiated and I'm curating yearly a composer's residency in Buitenwerkplaats Starnmeerdijk.
It is a one week residency in a place that is not traditionally music oriented, and gives composers the chance to work calmly outside of their box and to connect with new artists and in the same time bringing ‘another’ audience closer to contemporary creation.
Guest composer for 2018 was Jasna Velickovic. Together with Marijn Korff de Gidts she developed a new composition for magnetes and percussion which was presented in de Ruimte last June. The piece is selected and it will be performed in ISCM world music days this coming May.
Guest composer in 2017 was Anna Veismane from Latvia. She was “coupled” to musician Ekaterina Levental (harp and voice).
Guest composer 2016 was Maria Christina Krithara (GR).
Very happy to welcome Merlijn Twaalfhoven as guest for 2019!
Merlijn, composer and founder of The Turn Club, a lab for arts in society, explores in his projects the richness of cultural diversity and human interaction, often engaging musicians of contrasting styles, local traditions, or children in large events. He collaborates with artists, scientists, diplomats, and other idealists in new and creative ways.
The outcome of his residency will be presented with interactivity with the audicence on 22nd of June in Plein Theater, Amsterdam.
